Where Quaint Meets Cool

Written by kobukcoffee on . Posted in Kobuk Blog

We say Kobuk is where Quaint Meets Cool.  But what do we really mean?  Long before we dreamed of owning this charismatic old building, we felt that Kobuk was something special.  The shop has morphed over the years from a genteel frontier specialty store to a  trendy  tea and gift shop with Alaskan charm. The building has changed color, but it is the same structure sitting on the same Original Townsite lot.  No small achievement for a pre-64 Earthquake structure located on Ground Zero for Project 80s .  We still feel the feisty spirit of original owner, Mrs. Kimball Andresen, who held overzealous community leaders at bay when they wanted to raze this old building.  We have added cool wooden moose and a fantastic teapot mural on the outside, but inside, Kobuk is still filled with frontier charm.  Supplemented by a cozy bakery and café.

Next time you are downtown, come in and experience the Kobuk vibe.  You might be surprised at what you find.  A perfect gift for Mom?  A “your my favorite gal pal” token, maybe just an awesome new tea to keep you warm on these breezy  Spring days.  Kobuk, where the coffee’s great and the moose wear swirls.
